Using the Cascade App for Microsoft Teams
This Functionality is pending release
Overview
The Cascade app for Microsoft Teams lets you see your work and post updates without leaving Teams. It now also sends notifications to your Teams Activity Feed, so update requests don't get lost in the noise of your day.
With the app you can:
- Get a Teams notification when someone requests an update from you, or when a scheduled update is due
- Click a notification to go straight to the update and complete it in Teams
- View your work in a simplified Cascade experience
- Open the full Cascade product in your browser when you need more
If you already use the Cascade Teams app, it updates automatically. You'll notice a new icon, and nothing in your Cascade plans, metrics, dashboards or settings changes.
Getting started
To receive Cascade notifications in Teams, two things need to be in place: you have the app installed, and your organization's Microsoft 365 administrator has approved it.
- Install the app. In Microsoft Teams, open Apps, search for Cascade, and select Add. Your admin may have already installed it for you, in which case you'll see Cascade in your Teams sidebar.
- Sign in. Open the Cascade app and sign in with your Cascade account.
- Check for admin approval. If you see a message saying admin consent is required, your Microsoft 365 administrator needs to approve the app before notifications can be sent. You can still use Cascade in Teams as normal in the meantime. Share this article and the Teams App Admin Guide with your admin.
Once the app is installed and approved, notifications start automatically. If you uninstall the app, notifications stop.
What you can do
Get notified in Teams
Cascade sends a notification to your Teams Activity Feed for two types of event:
| Notification | When you'll get it |
|---|---|
| Update request | Someone requests an update from you using the Reports feature |
| Scheduled update | A scheduled update your Cascade admin has set up is due |
You'll continue to receive your usual Cascade email and in-app notifications. Other Cascade notification types aren't sent to Teams yet.
Post an update from a notification
- Select the Cascade notification in your Teams Activity Feed.
- The Cascade app opens on the item that needs an update. If you're signed out, sign in and you'll be taken back to the item.
- Add your update and save it.
FAQs and troubleshooting
I already use the Cascade Teams app. Do I need to do anything?
No. Teams updates the app for you automatically. Notifications will start once your admin has approved the app.
I've installed the app but I'm not getting notifications.
Your Microsoft 365 administrator probably hasn't approved the app yet. Look for an admin consent is required message in the app, and ask your admin to grant consent. It only needs to be done once for your whole organization.
I see an "admin consent required" error when signing in.
Some organizations' Microsoft settings require admin approval before you can sign in to Cascade through Teams. Contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and point them to the Teams App Admin Guide.
I clicked a notification and see a permission-denied message.
You no longer have access to that item in Cascade. Ask the item's owner or your Cascade admin if you need access.
I clicked a notification and the item can't be found.
The item was deleted after the notification was sent, so there's nothing to update.
Can I turn off certain types of Teams notifications?
Not at the moment. There's no user or admin setting for individual notification types. To stop all Cascade notifications in Teams, uninstall the app.
Does the Teams app replace Cascade in my browser?
No. The Teams app is a simplified way to view your work and post updates. You can open the full product in your browser at any time.
