First Login After Setting Up Single Sign-On (SSO)
Once your SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) connection is set up, you'll need to follow a few simple steps to link your account for the first time. Depending on whether you already have a profile in Cascade, the process may vary slightly. After completing the initial setup, future logins will be seamless and require minimal input. Follow the instructions below to ensure a smooth initial login experience.
For users with existing profiles:
-
Navigate to Cascade: Go to go.cascade.app
-
Log Out if Currently Logged In: If you are already signed in, please log out of your session to start the SSO setup from scratch
-
Enter Your Email Address: On the login screen, input your email address in the designated field and click Continue
-
Sign in via your company's login page: You will be automatically redirected to your company's login page where you will input in your company credentials
* You may flow through this step automatically - You are in: You'll be rerouted back into Cascade, now fully SSO-enabled. Going forward, you'll only need to enter your email address on Cascade's login page.
For users without existing profiles:
-
Accept Your Cascade Invitation: Begin by accepting your invitation to join your Cascade workspace.
-
Sign in via your company's login page: You will be automatically redirected to your company's login page where you will input in your company credentials
* You may flow through this step automatically -
Complete Profile Setup: Once routed into the platform, you’ll be asked to provide your job title to complete your profile setup.
- You are in: You'll be rerouted back into Cascade, now fully SSO-enabled. Going forward, you'll only need to enter your email address on Cascade's login page.
Future Logins with SSO
Now that SSO is enabled, future logins are streamlined. On subsequent logins, you will only need to enter your email address. Once you do, you'll be automatically routed into the system, no additional credentials required.
Common Login Issues with SSO
Most login issues after SSO setup fall into one of two categories: client-side (something to resolve on your organization's end) or Cascade-side (something our team can fix directly). Here's how to tell them apart.
1. Client-Side Issues
This is the most common issue, and it happens when a user hasn't yet been added to the SSO security group on your organization's end. The error will come from your identity provider (not Cascade) and will typically read something like:
"Your administrator has configured the app Cascade to block users unless they are granted explicit access."
How to resolve it: Add the affected user to the appropriate SSO security group in your identity provider. This is managed entirely on your team's side.
If a user still experiences issues after being added to the group, they're welcome to reach out to us at support@cascade.app, though this is uncommon once group access is corrected.
2. Cascade-Side Errors ("Bouncer" Screen)
These errors originate from Cascade itself and typically happen for one of two reasons:
- a) A duplicate trial account exists. The user accidentally created a trial account under the same email address. Since an email can only be tied to one workspace at a time, this locks them out of their actual account.
- b) The invitation hasn't been accepted yet. The user attempted to log in via go.cascade.app without first accepting their email invite. Because their profile isn't active yet, SSO can't link the account.
How to resolve it: In these cases, there's no need to loop in your IT team - the user (or an admin) can reach out directly to us at support@cascade.app and we'll sort it out.
FAQs
What should I do if I or other users are unable to log in?
To ensure access to the platform, please verify that each user has completed the following steps:
- Accepted their invitation (Note: invitations expire after 30 days)
- Entered and submitted a job title
- Has an "Enabled" user status
Does SSO apply to the entire account or individual users?
SSO is configured at the account level, meaning it will apply to all users within the account once it is set up.
