Integrate Microsoft Teams with Cascade


Almost every communication happens in Teams, and its only wise to collaborate on your objectives in the Teams space itself! We bring your strategy to where your team lives!

You can integrate Cascade with Microsoft Teams to work more collaboratively with your team, create and manage objectives, measures, actions, and keep your progress up-to-date. You'll get a quick view of all your objectives, and with just a few clicks, you can view, manage, and update them!

The only pre-requisite is that you have an account in Microsoft Teams, and in Cascade. You can connect with Teams either from Cascade or from Teams itself. 

How to integrate Microsoft Teams with Cascade?

From Integrations > Collaborate, click Connect in Microsoft Teams box. The Teams login page opens, and you need to select your account, enter the credentials! This will automatically open the dialog box to "add" Cascade app!

If you're trying to integrate Cascade from Teams, then login to your Teams account, and search for Cascade app.

Click the three dots or Apps from the left navigation pane, and search for Cascade - choose Cascade Strategy New (highlighted in the screenshot). Now, click Add to connect to our new version of Cascade space! 

Do not select "Cascade Strategy Classic", as it's used to connect to the Classic Experience of Cascade!

Click Access Cascade to establish the connection, and login with your Cascade credentials. Now, choose the workspace that you want to work with. On successful integration, you'll see Cascade app pinned to the left navigation pane, and all the plans, focus areas, objectives, and the associated success criteria with the health of that workspace here under My Objectives tab, in Teams itself!

How to manage objectives from within MS Teams?

When you login to MS Teams, you'll see the Cascade app on the left navigation pane. Click on it and from the My Objectives tab, you can view, create, update, and comment on the objectives without leaving MS Teams. The My Objectives tab lets you to

  • View and analyze the health of each plan at a single glance
  • Search for objectives
  • Add objectives from the Objectives Sidebar
  • Add measures, actions, and contributing objectives
  • Update the progress with the manual slider
  • Leave comments 
  • Edit or delete focus areas, objectives, and success criteria from the plan!

Manage Cascade within Teams

1Click Go to Cascade to open the Cascade platform if you'd like to add more details or any additional context. Also, you'll need to access Cascade if you wish to edit any details in the Sidebar, see the progress in goal hub, or generate reports, and to visualize performance with dashboards!
2Click Log out to log you out of Cascade from MS Teams! Click + Add objective to add objective from the Objective Sidebar. You'll give details like the name, start and due dates, add/invite collaborators, set the strategic contributions (plan and focus area, or objective), and so on. And if you wish to add the success criteria, you can do it from this Sidebar itself. See Add Objective from the Sidebar for details!
3Type and search for "objectives" you wish to view or manage.
4Click the three dots against the focus area to remove that focus area from the plan. Remember that this will also remove the objectives and their associated success criteria underneath it!
5(1)Click + Add objective to add an objective inline. If you wish to add other details like the start and due dates, add/invite collaborators, set the strategic contributions (plan and focus area, or objective), and so on, you can do so from Cascade!
6Click + Add new and add the relevant entity. If there're no entities added o an objective, then click + Add success criteria and add a project, measure, action, or contributing objective inline.
7Click the comment icon to leave your comments! 
8Use the manual slider to update the progress manually for measures and actions. If you've checklists to track actions, then you'll not see a manual slider against that action. In this case, you need to edit the progress in the Sidebar from the Cascade platform!
9Click the three dots against the objective, measure, action or contributing objective to Open or Edit them from the respective Sidebar (in Cascade), or Delete them! See The 'Sidebar' article for more context!

FAQs

How to uninstall Cascade app from MS Teams?

Right-click on the Cascade app from the left navigation pane, and click Uninstall.

You can click Pin to pin the app to the left pane, and Pop out app to open Cascade app in a separate window! 

Can I install Cascade for Teams for all users in my organization?

Yes! If you are an admin in Microsoft Teams, you can pre-install the Cascade app for all users. You also can install Cascade for just a segment of users inside Microsoft Teams.

  1. Go to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/ and log in with your ID and password.
  2. Go to Teams apps > Set up policies from the left navigation pane.
  3. Select the appropriate user group policy for your application. If you would like to pre-install Cascade for all users, select Global (Org-wide default).
  4. Select the Add apps button and add Cascade from the sidebar.

You have successfully installed Cascade for all Teams users in your organization! Your users can now see and use the Cascade app when they log in to Microsoft Teams.
